Infant Swim Lessons Importance

Updated: Jan 7

Teaching infants to swim is a rewarding experience for both the child and the educator. As an instructor, I have seen firsthand how important it is to introduce water safety and swimming skills at an early age. In this blog post, I share insights into the benefits of infant swim lessons.

The Importance of Early Swim Lessons

Infant swim lessons are not just about learning to swim. They are about building confidence, developing motor skills, and ensuring safety around water.

  • Safety First: Drowning is a leading cause of accidental death in children. Teaching infants basic water safety can significantly reduce this risk.

  • Confidence Building: When infants learn to float and move in the water, they gain confidence. This confidence can translate to other areas of their lives.

  • Motor Skills Development: Swimming helps develop coordination and strength. Infants learn to use their arms and legs in new ways, which can aid in their overall physical development.

Unfortunately, floaties and puddle jumpers instill a false confidence in little bugs, and also muscle trains their body to move vertically through the water. Going vertical in the water put kids in a posture most difficult to keep their heads up.

Getting your bugs skilled young not only benefits the safety of your little bug’s life, but also can bring more peace and enjoyment around water, instead of fear and anxiety.

No floaties, not a problem - when you have a kid skilled in ISR :)
