We are Approved, Now What?
(sent once child is placed on your schedule)
Hello Families,
I want to send a message in advance of our start with a few important
reminders and notes now that we are approved to begin. I am so excited to see you
all!
1) Make sure to bring 3 large towels for your child to use for their lesson. Enter LivRite through the main entrance and walk through the locker room to get to the pool. Please do not enter the building more than five minutes prior to your lesson.
2) The first days are a little challenging with new families and a new schedule. The
best way to help us avoid running behind is if you are on time and have your child
dressed and ready to be in the pool at their lesson time, not just arriving at lesson
time. We do our very best to remain on schedule and greatly appreciate your
cooperation as well. First day lessons are kept quite short to about three minutes so
we can allow time to talk with you before and after the lesson as well as to go over
required paperwork before we are in the pool with your child’s first lesson.
3) Please be sure all children not potty trained for 6 months are wearing two
NON-disposable swim diapers. We cannot allow less than 2 layers nor the
disposable swim diapers as quite honestly...they don't work and we cannot take any
chances with our extremely hygienic pool environment.
4) For day one, you must bring along a signed copy of my pool policies and your
child’s approved registration PDF sent from ISR signed.
5) Crying is normal. This will begin to go away as the week progresses but you
know your little one best, if they cry with strangers no matter how much they love
the water, the separation anxiety is what is the cause. I do my best to work through
the emotions and pay attention to the awesome skills your little one is learning and
help to guide you as to how to best respond to your child. It would be helpful for
your child's progress, if you can follow my lead. Please refrain from using words
like: "afraid", "scared", "crying", "it's ok" as these are trigger words even for babies
to escalate. Rather, use words like, "I'm proud", "what a great job", "you are so
good" as your child needs to know you trust in the process and then they too will.
6) I realize in warm months it is difficult to stay out of the water between lessons but
I urge you to wait to swim with your child until I can properly explain a few tips tokeep your child successful while in lessons and not extend your time in lessons.
Additionally if your child has used a floatation device (puddle jumper, noodle, a raft
that allows their legs to dangle, an inner tube, life vest, kick board, or goggles) in the
past, please do not allow these items any longer as they will work against lesson
progress.
7) Illness protocols require us to be 48 hours free of fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. If
your child is exhibiting any of these symptoms, please let me know. Additionally if
your child sees a doctor and is prescribed medication (not over the counter) then we
will need to update our registration to be especially safe in the event there are
additional protocols to follow based on the medication- this may mean missed
lessons are required depending on the medication or diagnosis.
8) On cooler days (not typical in Summer), please dry your little one's hair first and
then their bodies as heat escapes from their body through their heads fastest. If the
outside air temperature is under 60 degrees and we are at an outdoor pool, lessons
will be cancelled or delayed until temperatures warm up.
9) If you ever have questions, please do not hesitate to reach me outside of lessons.
It might seem daunting but I promise we will be in a great groove by about Thursday
of week one. Stick with me, I promise it is so worth it!
